Step 1: The Structure
Every great CV starts with a solid structure. These are the standard sections you'll find in most CVs. We'll fill them out in the next steps. Don't worry about adding any content yet!
Your Name & Contact Details
Education
Experience
Leadership & Positions of Responsibility
Skills
Interests
Pro Tip
The order of these sections can change. For example, if you have a lot of relevant work experience, you might put that before 'Education'. For now, we'll stick with this standard layout.
Step 2: Brainstorm Your Experiences
Time to get your ideas down. For each section below, list everything you've done. Don't worry about perfect sentences or formatting. Just write down notes, phrases, or even single words. Think about part-time jobs, volunteering, school projects, clubs, and hobbies.
Step 3: Build Powerful Bullet Points
This is where we turn your brainstormed notes into professional bullet points that grab an employer's attention. We'll use the Action + Task + Result formula.
The Formula
Start with a strong Action Verb (what you did), describe the Task (what you were doing), and quantify the Result (what the outcome was). Example: Organised (Action) a charity bake sale (Task), raising over £200 for a local shelter (Result).
Step 4: Refine and Compare
Let's see how your new CV stacks up against a strong example. On the left is your content. On the right are sections from the Jefferson Stryder CV. Use the example to get ideas for how you can make your own CV even better.
